Prescriptions
Dispensary
If you have a query about your prescription, please telephone the dispensaries from 09:00 until closing.
The dispensary is open all day for prescription collection.
If you are required to pay for your prescription, payments can be made by cash, cheque or credit/debit card. No medication can be taken without payment having been received. If you are unsure whether you need to pay for your prescription, please ask one of the dispensary team who will be able to advise you.
Any proof of exemption should be shown at all times.
Repeat Prescriptions
We can only dispense drugs to patients who live outside a 1-mile radius of the local pharmacy or in an emergency. Patients within the mile must get their prescriptions from a local pharmacy.
You can order a repeat prescription by either;
- Placing a request in the box situated in the entrance.
- Posting or faxing to dispensary.
- Using our online services – Patient Access. You will need to be registered for our online services. Please complete our Register for Online Services form to use this option.
Please allow 3 working days from ordering before collection.
Prescription prepayment certificate
You can buy prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) from the NHS which may make your prescriptions cheaper.
You can only get a PPC if you live in England.
A 3 or 12 month PPC covers all your prescriptions for that period, no matter how many you need.
A prescription costs £9.35 per item, but a PPC costs:
- £30.25 for 3 months
- £108.10 for 12 months
This means if you’re going to buy 4 or more prescriptions in 3 months, or 12 or more prescriptions in 12 months, it may be cheaper to buy a PPC.
You can pay in 10 monthly instalments if you buy a 12 month PPC.
How to buy
You can buy PPCs online or call the order line and pay by debit or credit card.

Prescription Fees
Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
- those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
- those who are age exempt
- those with certain medical conditions
More information is available at NHS Choices.
NHS Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.35
- 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £108.10
- 3-month PPC: £30.25
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
